Thursday Night Track Training

When: 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Where: Woodbourn Rd Athletics Stadium

The Thursday evening speed sessions are designed to improve your race times, pace judgement and mental stamina. They are for those who are prepared to work hard and want to improve.

The sessions take place on the track (or the local roads if there is an event taking place) and usually consist of repeats between 400m-1000m. Please see the current Thursday night training schedule for details of the current programme. Note: Sessions are subject to change at short notice.

These are open sessions which attract athletes from many local running clubs and are very popular with Striders. They are open to all abilities since you work at your own pace and being on the track you’ll never get left behind.

Meet near the start/finish line on the track to start at 6:00pm sharp. The session starts with a warm up followed by speed work.

Most sessions are taken by coaches Peter Brown or Mike Theobald. With prior agreement from the coach, some runners do extended sessions as part of their marathon training.

As with all Striders training runs, they are completely free and newcomers are more than welcome to attend to try us out under no obligation.  Please, do come along and see if it suits.

Note: Whilst the training is free, the track sadly isn’t.   There is a £4.65 fee payable to Sheffield Hallam University. Pay at the hut or if a regular, join Hallam Active and get unlimited use of both track and two gyms at Sheffield Hallam University.

Contact Peter through the contact form if you have further questions as he won’t always pick up messages on Facebook.

We have created a Frequently Asked Questions page that may already provide answers to your queries.
